Eyelid Surgery in Miami by Top Plastic Surgeons

As your skin ages, it loses elasticity. This loss of elasticity along with the constant pull of gravity makes the skin sag and excessive skin collect on the upper and lower eyelid. This excessive sagging skin on the lower eyelid causes wrinkles and bulging, whereas the collection of excessive skin on the upper eyelid causes the skin to sag over the eyelashes. This sagging skin that comes over the eyelashes can cause difficulty of sight. An eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty removes sagginess from the lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelids. It is usually performed along with a facelift and results in the widening of eyes.

WHEN CAN AN EYELID SURGERY HELP ?

It is not necessary that only an ageing person should undergo an eyelid surgery. Patients who require an eyelift present the following symptoms:

  • Crowded or hooded eyes
  • Disproportionate outer and inner corners of the eye
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Sagging upper and lower eyelids

HOW IS AN EYELID SURGERY PERFORMED?

Before the surgery can begin a general check up will be conducted by the doctor.

An eye lift surgery is compared to performing a dental surgery procedure. Local or IV anesthesia can be used. Usually, local anesthesia is preferred over IV anesthesia. By using local anesthesia, the area to be performed surgery on will be numbed and a small incision will be made on the upper eyelid.

After a small incision is made, the excess skin, fat and muscle is removed. After removing the involuntary, the skin and muscle is tightened. The skin is then stitched up using sutures or skin glue. The sutures are removed after a week of surgery.

Whether or not to include both the upper eyelid and the lower eyelid for surgery will be determined during your consultation based on your requirements.

Most of the time, a brow lift is sufficient to get rid of the excess skin from the upper eyelids. This prevents you from getting an incision too.

WHAT ARE THE PRE-OPERATIVE REQUIREMENTS ?
